Khan Academy is used all around the world. In 2019, 240,000 teachers in more than 50 countries used our resources. Khan Academy has local staff on the ground in Brazil, India, and Peru to deepen our engagement in these countries.
Brazil has the second largest number of Khan Academy learners after the United States, and most of them are using Khan Academy in classrooms. In 2019 we extended our classroom footprint in Brazilian schools, and we now have 52 school district partnerships across the country.
To help teachers and students even more, we launched 1,459 videos, 366 articles, and 927 sets of questions for math and science courses. All of this content aligned with the recently developed national standards of Brazil, the BNCC, and was fully translated into Portugese. We also offered new tools and programs just for teachers in Brazil, including a self-paced training series for teachers to get started using Khan Academy. Through these efforts in 2019, we reached 201,000 Brazilian educators.
Making an impact in education in India requires supporting teachers and students in classrooms, the majority of which haven’t experienced technology in schools before.
In 2019, we partnered with 29 public and private school systems, reaching nearly 120,000 students. We launched a pilot with Kendriya Vidyalayas, a nationwide network of government schools. This influential partner, known as an early adopter of innovative methodologies, will hopefully provide a model for other state governments.
Last year we also built new teacher training tools and launched new math and science content, including 252 new videos and 2328 new practice problems, to be better aligned to national curriculum and to help students prepare for India’s high-stakes board exams. Simultaneously we are working to make sure content is available in major languages. In partnership with the government of Karnataka, we launched the Kannada site with math content for grades five to ten. Between our team and that of our partners’, we recreated 2,036 videos in Hindi, Hinglish, Gujarati, and Kannada in 2019.

In 2019 Khan Academy doubled the number of registered students and teachers to reach more than 800 teachers and 206,000 students in nearly 270 schools.
In 2019 we also developed additional training for teachers and launched three Peru-specific curations: alignment to the national math curriculum across 11 grades, alignment to our partner Innova Schools’ math curriculum across four grades, and development of a pre-university course covering both math and science. For the first time, we created Peru-specific content in Spanish, publishing over 150 new items, including more than 350 practice questions, as well as videos and articles. These new curations enabled fifth and sixth graders at Innova Schools to leverage our Mastery Learning System. And, we’ve been working closely with teachers to implement this new feature for self-paced learning.
